Sound & Response

The Muse delivers immediate vibration with a woody, luminous, and resonant tone. Its tuning has been carefully optimized with well-calibrated intervals, offering exceptional consistency across all registers and in the transitions between them. New conical bores in the barrel, body, and bell give the instrument a clear, colorful, and warm tonal character, making it equally at home in orchestral, chamber, and solo settings.

The EVOLUTION System

The boldest innovation in the Muse's design is the introduction of Selmer's EVOLUTION system, which combines grenadilla wood with a resin internal lining in the upper joint to dramatically improve resistance to cracking. This method of integrating a newly designed resin into the wood offers extreme protection against cracking without sacrificing the natural acoustic qualities of the wood, and is backed by a 10-year warranty against upper joint cracking.

Construction & Materials

Each Muse clarinet is crafted from premium, carefully selected grenadilla that has been aged and seasoned for superior performance, producing a gorgeous dark tone rich in harmonics. The instrument features silver-plated keywork, a combination of leather pads with boosters and Gore-tex pads, blue steel springs, an adjustable thumb rest, and metal tenon and socket connections. A raised C#/G# tone hole further enhances tuning precision across the instrument.

Ergonomics

The redesigned keywork system optimizes the placement and shape of keys to reduce fatigue and promote a more natural hand position, allowing players to focus fully on musical expression rather than technical demands.

What's Included

The Muse ships with two conical barrels (64mm and 65mm), the new Selmer Echo mouthpiece — the first Selmer Paris clarinet mouthpiece manufactured entirely on a digitally controlled machine for unprecedented consistency — a silver-plated ligature and cap, and the PRiSMe hardshell case.

Available in 18-key and 19-key configurations with the 19-key version adding a low E/F correction key for improved intonation in the chalumeau register.
