Selmer Recital A Clarinet
The Selmer Paris Recital stands among the most distinctive instruments in the professional clarinet world. Built with a bore that is two millimeters wider in diameter than standard models, the Recital was engineered for players who want more a dark and robust sound.
Sound and Response
The Recital's widened bore and thicker wood walls work together to produce a warm, dark tonal core with exceptional projection. Tapered undercut tone holes keep intonation consistent across registers, while a free-blowing response gives players fine control over dynamics without added resistance. The result is a sound that carries in both solo and large ensemble settings without losing its focus or richness.
Construction
The body, barrel, and bell are crafted from specially selected grenadilla wood, seasoned for stability and tonal consistency. The instrument features silver-plated keywork across 18 keys and 6 rings on a standard Boehm system, with leather pads and blue steel needle springs for quick, reliable action. Metal tenon sockets add durability at the joints, and an adjustable thumb rest lets players fine-tune hand position for extended playing comfort.
The Evolution Difference
The Evolution Series brings an element of reliability and stability that has never before been seen in the professional clarinet world. A BPA-free resin is integrated into the upper joint, delivering four key advantages: greater stability in dimensional variation so the bore does not move or change; a waterproof construction that eliminates cracking; better thermal conductivity so the instrument heats up and reaches pitch more quickly; and smoother response across all registers.
Scientific studies and blind acoustic tests confirmed no notable difference in sound between traditional clarinets and Evolution system clarinets — all the reliability of modern engineering, none of the tonal compromise. Each Evolution upper joint is identified with a small star (★) near the serial number.
