Selmer Paris Supreme Alto Saxophone

The Supreme represents Selmer Paris's first entirely new alto design since the Reference series launched in 2003. Built on the familiar Mark VI body tube, the Supreme introduces new tone hole placement and sizing, a redesigned neck and bell bore, and a key layout refined for modern hand positioning.

Sound and Response

The Supreme delivers balanced tuning across the full range with wide color palette, moving comfortably between a warm, rounded classical sound and a brighter, more direct jazz voice without demanding a change in setup. Response is immediate from whisper-soft pianissimo through full fortissimo, and the instrument stays even from the low Bb through the altissimo register. The new bore geometry accounts for much of this evenness, correcting intonation tendencies that required more active adjustment on earlier Selmer models.

Construction

The Supreme's C# correction mechanism, first introduced on the Series III, has been redesigned and repositioned in line with the other tone holes on the body tube, simplifying the mechanism and allowing the note to blend better in the overall sound. A new three-point concentric tenon join between neck and body improves seal consistency and pressure distribution, giving the instrument quicker response. The octave key mechanism uses Teflon-lined sockets to lighten the action, and the left-hand pinky keys use a hinged toggle design for smoother transitions between keys. A direct adjustment arm links the right-hand F# and F keys for finer regulation. The body and bell carry the Supreme's signature engraving, a combination of traditional floral motifs and a molecular cube pattern.
